Planning for my first Bring Spring Challenge prompt: May Flower, which I will try to make into an Indian Floral pattern. Here are some sketches, me trying to figure out how to turn typical Swedish May flowers into something stylized and Indian Floral looking.

Tried to make an Indian Floral Easter Egg yesterday. NOT EASY. It’s all blurred and messy. Note to self: water based markers will not stay on egg shell... Gouache will though (swipe for the second more successful egg).

You need to know just how much all your beautiful comments on my second last post means to me. I don’t know, but I may seem to have my shit together, some success, found my style and live a romantic home studio life. But the thing is, 75% of the time I feel inadequate, like an imposter, that my work isn’t good enough, that I should’ve come further by now. You know, that stupid self criticising devil on my shoulder, that we tend to give too much say in what is the actual truth. You probably have one too?⠀

You’re encouragement and support is the counterweight that pushes me to understand better that those negative thoughts are ghosts in my brain, in my subconscious.⠀

So, thank you for being my shoulder angles, giving that devil a really good fight! She’s sulking in a corner right now, short of words.

Welcome to my corner here on Instagram! I have a bunch of new followers and I think it’s time to literally and figurative give you a picture of who I am and what I do (and I think there is some info here that I haven’t shared with my long time friends before as well). ⠀

I’m a surface and pattern designer, illustration artist and top teacher on Skillshare. ⠀

I’m married to Johan who is a risk analyst for a bank and we have two kids, Isac who’s twelve and Wilma who turns ten in a couple of weeks. And then there is Kalle, the bunny. We live in a house we built 10 years ago in the outskirts of Stockholm.⠀

My name - Bärbel - isn’t Swedish, but German, since my dad is from Germany. I wish I could speak German fluently, but I can’t.⠀

On Skillshare I teach courses on illustration, how to use markers and I have a series about how to create classic pattern design styles like Toile de Jouy, Indian Florals and Paisley (more is coming later this year). Right now I’m producing a class on illustration that will be published in 2-3 weeks.⠀
